Now a bike trail, the former Erie Lackawanna mainline once cut through the middle of the south side of Hammond. HY (Hammond Yard) Tower stood north of 165th Street and controlled movements at the south end of the yard. In this April 1974 photo, four Erie Lackawanna E8As are bringing a mixed freight south out of Hammond Yard.
