Up ahead, to the left (north) are the turnouts and connector tracks that were installed by the Penn Central in 1968, allowing ex-Pennsy access to the ex-New York Central (out of sight in the photo, running parallel north of the Pennsy through this area) & visa-versa. From this point westward on the NYC side, the right-of-way was abandoned.
In 1974, the Broadway Limited took the straight ahead route on the Pennsy. Until the PRR trackage east of the connector was abandoned & pulled up.
