A warm spring day in May of 1981 finds four National Railway de Mexico (NDM) M424s southbound in a Conrail freight through Hammond, Indiana.  With its central location, the Chicago area was infamous for finding new units being shipped to their purchasers while retired locomotives were making their way across the country to various scrapyards.
