The new 1974 Mustang IIs, Chrysler New Yorkers (or Imperials) and other makes & models are on their way from factories to dealer showrooms. Have a look at the tri-rack in the center of the photo, still carries Pennsylvania Railroad insignia while rolling off miles under Penn Central ownership.
This is yet another westbound Norfolk & Western train using ex-Wabash rail routing, we're peeping southeast as this movement comes off the Baltimore & Ohio, through State Line interlocking's run-around connector, and onto the Chicago & Western Indiana for access to Chicago.
Also have a look at the EJ&E Hammond branch which paralleled the connector for several yards, then crossed over. Fresh ballast, appears to have been well maintained...today, excepting the B&O main, nearly everything that was seen in the above photo on November 14th, 1973, has since vanished.
