Photographed in 1976, Hammond's locomotive exhibit is about to gain two new railroad additions. The story of this particular endeavor may be found here, at the top of Chapter four.
In the above photo, Phase One has already been completed. New rails had been laid in front of the 624, then pulled forward using a winch equipped bulldozer...amazingly, the locomotive could still roll.
In the background, a South Shore caboose and a Milwaukee Road reefer. Apparently delivered to this location via the Erie Lackawanna. What was left of the recently expired EL, that is.
