Another crane gets involved with the lifting chores. Hey! Ahhh, wait....

...I think I've figured exactly how the caboose and reefer were moved across that empty field (a field that not long ago, was the south end of the Erie Lackawanna's Hammond switch yard). For in the above photo, the caboose is lifted, then snubbered against the rear of the crane, done to prevent any lateral swinging motion.

Then it must've been a matter of driving the crane very s-l-o-w-l-y through the field until the final destination, a short distance to the viewer's right was reached.
